Planning your kit for Kilimanjaro can feel like a mission in itself, especially when you’re trying to work out what you need to buy, what you already own, and what you can hire locally.
The good news? You don’t necessarily need to buy every single item before you travel.
For some of the bulkier or more specialist pieces of trekking gear, you can hire equipment from our team in Tanzania for your Kilimanjaro trek. This can be a handy option if you want to save space in your luggage, avoid buying kit you may only use once, or keep your pre-trip costs down.

How to reserve kit
To reserve an item, simply contact EverTrek before your trip and we’ll make a note of your request.
You’ll then collect and pay for your hire kit when you arrive at the Springlands Hotel in Moshi.
Nice and easy — and one less thing to squeeze into your suitcase.
Should you hire or buy Kilimanjaro kit?
Hiring can be a great option for bulkier or more specialist items, especially if you’re not sure how often you’ll use them after your trek.
Items like a sleeping bag, down jacket or hiking poles can take up space and add cost before you travel, so hiring them locally can make sense for some trekkers.
That said, we’d usually recommend bringing your own personal comfort items where possible, especially things like walking boots, base layers and well-tested socks. Anything that sits close to your skin or affects your comfort on long trekking days is worth getting right before you travel.
In short:
Good items to consider hiring: sleeping bag, down jacket, poles, gaiters or duffel bag.
Better to bring your own: walking boots, worn-in socks, base layers, gloves you’ve tested, and any personal hygiene or medication items.
