Flights & travel to Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu Airport & Travel
So, you have decided to tick Machu Picchu off your bucket list and the time has arrived to start getting prepared! I know what it’s like to prepare for a trip and it’s surprising how frustrating it can be to organise everything, especially the flights side of things.
We often get questions about international travel and it’s understandable why during some mad times over the last couple of years. Booking the wrong flight can be an expensive mistake and knowing what to do when you land can be scary, so I’ve decided to help by answering some of the most asked questions so you can get that flight booked without any issues:
What Airport should I be flying to?
International flights are not included in your booking so you will need to arrange your return flight to Cusco, Peru. You need to book a flight to Alejandro Velasco Cusco airport. Most do travel via the Jorge Chavéz International Airport in Lima and then arrive in Cusco either the same day or the day after.
What day should I aim to arrive?
You should arrange to arrive in Cusco on day 1 of your itinerary. As it generally takes longer than a day to arrive, you should book your flight to leave the UK the day before.
Where do I go once I’ve arrived in Cusco?
When you arrive, one of our team will pick you up outside the building in the Arrivals area before transferring you to Cusco City itself. Don’t Worry you won’t have to do all of this alone, a member of the local EverTrek team will be there to help.
What happens if I arrive early in Cusco?
If you decide to arrive early in Cusco, we'll still aim to pick you up and transfer you to our group's accommodation. Any additional nights are extra of course but we can do this for you. If you do arrive early and do your own thing and stay at other accommodation, let us know so we can manage this accordingly. It's likely you'd have to arrange your own transport to the group accommodation so most people do tend to stay in Cusco at the group accommodation we use.
What happens if I want to extend my trip and depart later than the final day?
If you wish to extend your stay in Peru please let us know at least 90 days in advance so we can make the arrangements. If you plan on staying longer in Cusco just let us know. What most people tend to do is to extend their trip to somewhere like Rainbow Mountain or Lake Titicaca with us and this would be a continuation of the itinerary where we would then transport you back to Cusco airport at the end of your trip.
What are the entry requirements for Peru?
You don't need a visa to enter Peru.
