How to apply for a Tanzania visa to climb Kilimanjaro

So if you’re preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, here’s everything you need to know about getting a visa for Tanzania.

What type of visa do you need to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania?

If you are entering Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, you’ll need a tourist visa. You can get a single entry travel visa (Also known as Ordinary Visa), which is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. It allows you to stay for a maximum of 90 days.

What are the entry requirements for a Tanzania visa?

As with any travel visa, to enter Tanzania and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, you’ll need to meet some criteria:

• Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you arrive in Tanzania.
• Your passport must have at least one empty page.
• You will need to go through monkeypox screening upon entering Tanzania.
• You will need to show a return ticket or onward ticket at the border when you arrive.

How to apply for your Tanzania visa online

1. Create a new visa application

Follow this link to create a new Tanzania visa application. We highly recommend that you use this link ONLY, as other websites may charge additional fees or risk being scams.

2. Complete the first section of the form

3. Submit your passport details

After completing the first page, it will bring you to this larger form, asking you for a copy of your passport and further details.

4. Make a note of your User Identification Number

As the application progresses, you will receive an e-mail message containing a User Identification Number which is used to track the application online.Keep this safe!

5. Pay for and submit your Tanzania visa application

After the form is completed you will be required to make payment. As of 2026, a single-entry Tanzania visa will cost you $50USD (approximately £40-£45).

Upon successful payment, you can submit your application.

6. Download your Tanzania e-visa grant notice

Once an e-visa has been granted, you will be able to download and print it to present at the point of entry.
